Fire Communion, or, What Do God, Popeye, Doris Day, and Lao Tzu Have in Common?

This New Year’s Sunday message weaves together the surprising wisdom of Moses, Popeye, Doris Day, and Lao Tzu to explore how we step into a new year with authenticity and courage. As we prepare for our annual Fire Communion ritual, we will be invited to release old fears, perfectionism, and limiting stories, and to embrace a deeper, truer way of being. Examples ranging from ancient teachings to children's cartoons to pop-culture simplicity demonstrate how spiritual grounding is connected to civic responsibility, and remind us that democracy, justice, and community are sacred work. Join us as we let go, open up, and begin again.
If you join us through Facebook Live, you can participate in Fire Communion by preparing beforehand a pen or pencil, a few small pieces of paper (perhaps 2 or 3 inches square), and a bowl of water.
