African American History Month: Reinterpreting Delilah and other Tall Tales
Click to view the full calendar!

Perspective is everything. In interpretations of the Hebrew Bible, Delilah (remember Samson and Delilah? If not, no worries... we'll fill you in!), well, Delilah has traditionally been portrayed as a harlot and a traitor. What if we looked at her predicament through her eyes, and took into account what she was experiencing? What would Queen Jezebel – that purportedly out-of-control radical feminist, the pagan she-monster – what would she look like, if she had won her long-running battle with Elijah? What would Mary Magdalene look like to a society with matriarchal values? How will other stories be reinterpreted in ways that make them more meaningful? What if Unitarian Universalists were to borrow, and apply, this openminded and intuitive approach to religious texts in general? What might we gain by mining our Fourth Source for all it’s worth?
Lisa Jackson, ASWUU member, will deliver a message honoring African American History Month that was written by Bob Clegg. Carli Harlow will serve as worship associate.
The service will begin at 11 a.m. and will be available on Facebook Live. To participate remotely, go to the ASWUU Facebook page and click the Live link.
We will have a social hour after the service for coffee, snacks and conversation. You may bring a dish to share if you would like to do so.
